EPF is proud to contribute to the Hyper4Rail project which officially launched in December 2024, marking a significant step forward in the harmonisation and industrialisation of hyperloop technology in Europe. This initiative, co-funded by Europe’s Rail Joint Undertaking, brings together 27 international partners and aims at advancing the development of hyperloop, a concept for magnetically levitated trains running at high speeds inside nearly airless tubes.
Hyper4Rail is part of the Hyperloop Development Program, which aims to integrate hyperloop into the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T). The project’s core mission is to create a harmonised and implementable hyperloop concept that aligns with the EU’s goals for sustainable mobility and decarbonisation.
Key objectives of Hyper4Rail are to:
- Establish a common hyperloop design and validate its essential technologies;
- Align hyperloop with the EU’s Green Deal and sustainable transport goals;
- Define a roadmap for the industrialisation and implementation of hyperloop technology by the 2030s.
Over the next 24 months, Hyper4Rail will conduct extensive research and technological validation, setting the foundation for the future implementation of hyperloop in Europe. Once the Hyper4Rail project is completed, attention will shift toward large-scale demonstrators, further collaboration within the industry, and pilot implementations. The goal is for hyperloop technology to be industrialised and deployed at scale by the 2030s.
Hyperloop technology promises to revolutionise European mobility by offering a fast, energy-efficient, and fully integrated transport system. With Hyper4Rail, the EU is taking a major step toward making hyperloop a reality, shaping the future of sustainable high-speed travel.
