EPF firmly believes that there is a role for international night trains – but that role is not exactly the same as it was 30 years ago.
Our October Council meeting discussed the latest developments and agreed the following call:
“We urge the European Union to commission an independent fact-finding study of the social, economic and environmental benefits for EU citizens of international night trains and their costs in relation to their benefits.”
EPF Chairman Trevor Garrod made this call during a meeting of the European Parliament’s Transport & Tourism Committee on November 4th; when he also called for improvements to cross-border daytime services as well. He also called for for issues of transparency, franchising, funding and interoperability to be addressed.
